dispense

Despite representing 130 mhl or so around the world, draught beer is in decline.  Although this reflects a host of reasons - political, economic, social and technological - draught beer remains a convivial (for consumers) and a profitable (for retailers, brand owners) way to consume beer.  In the biggest market - the UK -  draught volumes have declined from 52.2 mhl in 1985 to 34 mhl in 2005.  About 98% of this decline is down to the dramatic reduction in the consumption of ale/stout whilst lager has increased marginally in 20 years from 18.2 mhl to 19.5 mhl.

As mentioned elsewhere I have a passion for beer dispense, particularly innovation.  Indeed in my previous life I headed up a team of splendid draught dispense engineers that brought the UK the 'extra cold' lager category at 2˚C (Carling Extra Cold), created the 'sub zero' technology (with frozen crystals of lager beneath the head) of Coors Sub Zero and the innovative Cold Beer Station.
