the bar |

| I have a passion for
innovation - as in making things better, making
better things - in beer dispense. From the
perspective of the Brand owner it provides a real
opportunity to to influence both Consumers and
Retailers. However the shear scale of the
'on-trade', consequent capital cost and frequent
difficulty in 'getting the simple things right' make
dispense innovation something of a fascinating
challenge. This article was fun to write although the
UK industry trends for the on-trade are a little
sobering. The scope is wide-ranging from cooling
innovation below the bar to those above the bar
developments that impact more directly on Consumers.
However, for me it's the less sexy area of 'quality'
that poses arguably the biggest problem and opportunity
for innovation. The article wraps up with some
musings on the role of data logging in driving quality
improvement.

feedback to these sort of articles is rare so I was
chuffed to get an email from a chum in Canada .....
As I started into the article,
I didn’t read who the author was and thought “wow ---
this guy’s articulate, he knows his stuff and this is
the best general overview of dispense I’ve ever read”.
